Students from an international school showed interest in ZAT’s nuclear know-how

Plzeň welcomed an international team of students for the eleventh time as part of the French–Czech–Slovak Winter School 2026. This is a specialized educational program that combines academic instruction with presentations from key players in the nuclear industry, as well as site visits to major companies with nuclear know-how.

As part of this year’s program, both international and Czech students visited our company. As ZAT is among the European leaders in supplying control systems for the energy sector and demanding industrial processes, the visit was, according to the students, both beneficial and highly engaging.

We introduced the students to four generations of control and instrumentation systems for nuclear power that have been developed at ZAT since 1962. The main focus was on the current SandRA control system, which is deployed in several nuclear power plants across Europe, including in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, and will also be used in the strategic modernization of existing units at the Dukovany Nuclear Power Plant. The students were particularly interested in technological solutions, completed projects, and opportunities for future cooperation between industry and academia.

Many of their questions also concerned the rigorous testing requirements that our products for the nuclear sector must withstand. During a visit to our testing laboratory, they were able to see concrete examples of technologies and control systems used in the energy industry.

The week-long study program is organized by the University of West Bohemia in Plzeň (UWB) in cooperation with the French organization I2EN, the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava (STU), and other industrial partners.
