Czech Power Industry Alliance and South Korean KHNP signed memorandum on nuclear energy
During the state visit of the Minister of Industry, Trade and Energy of the Republic of Korea, Mr. Moon Sung-wook, in the Czech Republic, representatives of Czech industry and KHNP management - a leading player in the construction of nuclear power plants in the world - signed a declaration on future cooperation in nuclear energy. The signing of the memorandum took place on Friday 18 June at the Ministry of Industry and Trade with the participation of Mr. Karel Havlíček the Minister of Industry and Trade.
ZAT is one of the founding companies of the Czech Power Industry Alliance (CPIA). "As a manufacturer and supplier of control systems for nuclear energy, we are enormously interested in setting up cooperation with KHNP not only on the upcoming tender for the completion of nuclear blocks in our country, but also on other KHNP projects in Europe and the world," says Ivo Tichý, member of the ZAT board of directors.
The memorandum follows on the visit of member companies of the Czech Power Industry Alliance (CPIA) to the KHNP headquarters in South Korea at the end of May, where both parties learned about the possibilities of mutual cooperation and involvement of Czech companies in building a new nuclear power source in the Czech Republic.
Business opportunity for Czech companies
The declaration creates a framework for future cooperation in the construction of a new nuclear power source not only in the Czech Republic but also in other countries. It opens up the possibility of involving Czech companies in projects implemented by KHNP companies in the areas of design and engineering, service and research and development. It also regulates the basic communication and decision-making environment for the organization of cooperation between the Czech and Korean industries in the nuclear power industry.
"I am convinced that cooperation with the CPIA and its members, who represent the Czech nuclear industry, will play a key role in achieving successful results in the construction of new nuclear blocks in the Czech Republic. The signing of the memorandum of understanding also serves as a stepping stone to further expand our cooperation, including joint action in the European market,” says Seung Yeol Lima, KHNP Vice President of New Nuclear Resources division.
Czech nuclear industry in the world
Czech companies have a lot to offer in the nuclear industry. It is one of the European leaders in engineering, production, and service of nuclear devices, throughout the entire life cycle of a nuclear power plant. They are also one of the basic building blocks of the ability to independently operate and service nuclear power plants in our country.
"The signing of the declaration confirms the interest of both parties in cooperation and awareness of the range of possibilities and know-how of the partner. Since signing, we promise to set up a basic communication and decision-making line between the two entities in order to be prepared and adequately respond to various topics of mutual cooperation, including strategic partnerships across individual markets," adds Milan Šimonovský, Vice-Chairman of the Czech Power Industry Alliance Committee.
